What do you like?

We've used Vista for many years now. They have continually been advancing their construction software. We love using Team and Field View to track our project management and quality control items. Their customer service has also been amazing to work with. Whether it be through live chat or submitting a ticket, they are quick to respond.

What do you dislike?

The downside is having to use different logins for each program. It would be much easier if they made it all-inclusive.

What problems is it solving?

Vista greatly impacted our productivity by simplifying/streamlining how we track our project management documents.

Customizable Templates for Invoices and Reports

What do you like?

It's construction software that encompasses all aspects of the business. It has modules for everything from equipment monitoring to service work. It's a one-catch-all accounting software for construction companies.

What do you dislike?

Support sometimes lacks. Being forced to move to the cloud is not very comforting. Pricing is somewhat expensive, especially when being told we have to move to the cloud.

What problems is it solving?

It's very uniform software for all aspects of our business. We have a service department, and the service management module is very good. We use equipment, and having that module is very helpful as well.

What do you like?

Vista has extensive functionality for Accounting and Project Management processes, and I like that programs can be customized to store new pieces of information. While the user interface can seem pretty outdated, and the learning curve can be a bit daunting for new users, Viewpoint has made self-help tools and a good amount of documentation on different modules accessible, which is very helpful. Ease of navigation and confidence comes with time, patience, and good support/training.

What do you dislike?

My biggest issue as a person responsible for offering internal support for Vista and assisting with reporting is that any custom reports need to be handled by a third-party software. In my company's case, the barrier of training to use SAP Crystal and the cost to license the software means that in order to access our carefully maintained data, we have to resort to using consultants. I do feel that this negatively affects our agility as a company. Since Vista is so customizable/extensive, sometimes it is very convoluted where information is stored and what fields a report is drawing from without the third party software. Overall, due to the amount of detail that can be captured, Vista can be an incredible reporting tool as long as you have adequate resources to retrieve that information.

What problems is it solving?

Vista is capable of capturing an incredible amount of project details and changes, and understanding how all of the pieces come together gives an invaluable look at both the minute wins and losses, as well as the big picture changes for the company as a whole.

Easy Integration with E-commerce Platforms

What do you like?

I like that all of the packages are integrated. We are using Vista/Keystyle/Team. The software is easy to use and we have eliminated all these side spread sheets for our projects. Keystyle is for entering Employees time and it gets dumped right into Vista Payroll. We have come a long way.

What do you dislike?

I with there was more reporting and a easy / economical way to create or modify reports in Vista.

What problems is it solving?

Our data is timely and not weeks behind. The data is also way more accurate

What do you like?

Viewpoint does a great job of connecting the project management and job cost modules with the accounting and payroll side. We also like the document management and reporting functionality.

What do you dislike?

While add on's like Viewpoint's TEAM and KeyStyle integrate nicely, they still lacks some basic tools and aren't as feature-rich as other solutions. Also, Viewpoint has a steep learning curve because of its functionality. It takes more training than normal to get people from a beginner to an intermediate user level.

What problems is it solving?

Viewpoint's HR Module in conjunction with it's KeyStyle web UI has dramatically decreased our employee onboarding and benefits enrollment processing time.

What do you like?

The functionality to pull data to your specific needs.

What do you dislike?

Presentation of the data in standard reports could be better and pricing is sometimes not clear.

What problems is it solving?

Work through connected construction between design, accounting, and construction

Secure Data Access and Permissions

What do you like?

Vista tracks all our job needs. We are able to track subcontracts, job status and payments in one system.

What do you dislike?

There are some processes that are complicated and not easy to understand. There are a lot of fields that need to be filled in in order to properly report data. Can be time consuming for data entry accountants.

What problems is it solving?

We are able to track payments to vendors and make sure they are not overpaid without a signed PO. We are able to track jobs and review when cash flow is negative.

What do you like?

The software itself is excellent, for the most part, easy to access. One extremely nice part about Viewpoint is the self-help features and their Knowledge Base. 9 times out of 10 you can find the answers to your problems by simply searching and reading the help articles. There is the 10% where you can't but submitting a case is as easy as it gets. The team is there to help you and will remove in to do so also. Building your own forms is a nice tool but it would be nice to turn off some of the warnings that are not helpful. Being able to have viewpoint one and HR management working closely together (one click of a button) definitely makes things easier. Being able to do your entire job in one software is nice!

What do you dislike?

When moving to the cloud it seems there is a bit of a delay in the response time when clicking applications, sometimes it also freezes. The move to the cloud was supposed to make it easier for service and MSI but it seems MSI still does not talk to HR management where we can do away with how they enter their time.

What problems is it solving?

We use VISTA for nearly everything in the accounting, payroll, and service side. Having a one stop shop for everything makes things far easier.

Positive Impact on Financial Reporting

4.1
What do you like?

I find the most helpful tool in Vista is the Work Centers. We teach our employees to start and end their day in the Work Center. Lots of information on one screen, and it is easy to move back and forth through different modules to get quick answers. And if you need to make updates or changes, just a double-click takes you there.

What do you dislike?

Not being able to customize certain Grid Views within a program module at a global level. A lot of time could be saved by allowing an administrator to set up the company-preferred view one time rather than every user needing to repeat a process with directions or instructions or another seasoned user helping them get their screens in the proper order

What problems is it solving?

Centralizing job information in one location and eliminating manual processes that were done in the past. Information can be obtained by running reports or going to the Work Center without having to send emails and request information from other departments or personnel.

What do you like?

We switched to Vista 10 years ago looking for an integrated solution as our production and accounting were on separate systems. After looking at several solutions, we chose Vista because of the flexibility and its ability to comprehensively cover everything that we needed as a general contractor. They are constantly making improvements to the platform, and most shortfalls that the program has, they either have a strategic partnership with a company to fill those gaps, or just outright integrate them into the software itself. Being SQL based, adding additional 3rd party programs for 2 way integration has been a breeze.

What do you dislike?

If you choose Vista, make an effort to have a dedicated team work on the program. Because of its flexibility, you are not getting a canned program that you can start and go. Taking the time to have champions and do it right pay big dividends in the end. Some of the ways to get information out of Vista is a little difficult just out of the box, especially on the financial side They have offered a free 3rd party solution to assist.

What problems is it solving?

The biggest business problems we are solving with Vista is time savings, less need for paper documents, and less of a need for meeting in person. With Vista, and a few additional snap on programs, we have automated the invoice processing and approval, credit card processing and insurance tracking. All 3 of these had long times needed for meeting with project mangers, keeping a ton of receipts, and having to meet in the office. In addition there were Excel logs and double entry into the system. Now all of this is fairly automated where a lot of this is done by someone else, and flows directly into the system with minimal efforts with review and approval.
